This artifact is a 18 page paper I wrote for a Spanish course called Technical Spanish for Health Management Professionals. The purpose of writing this paper was to explore Chile’s healthcare system. I researched information like the type of insurance Chile uses, the efficiency of their healthcare system, problems, and more. I learned a lot about decentralization and quality of care. I concluded the paper with recommendations for laws and ideas to combat inequalities. This paper further developed my writing skills in Spanish. It was challenging, at first, to understand the complexities of their healthcare system while researching in Spanish, but it was rewarding to learn new things. This paper allowed me to fully analyze another country's healthcare system and dissect its entirety. Improving my writing skills in Spanish sets me up for greater success in my future career. I will better understand documents and have the ability to take proper notes when speaking with a patient in Spanish.

This artifact is a slideshow presentation on surgery. I made this presentation for my Spanish for Health Professionals course in Sevilla. The purpose of this presentation was to learn more about surgery and the Spanish terminology within the subject. This project expanded my vocabulary as well as strengthened my presentation and speaking skills. After researching this topic and presenting for class, I did a rotation in the surgery department at the hospital I was interning at in Sevilla. The new knowledge allowed me to feel more confident while shadowing and ask more in depth questions. Although this presentation focused on surgery, it showed me the importance of being versed in medical terminology and patient care. I will use these language skills in my future career for patient communication. This project will allow me to better understand a patient’s medical history. There are many types of surgeries and many people undergo them, so having knowledge in the subject and the ability to communicate will improve the quality of patient care.
