Culture Artifacts

My Culture/Literature/Film reflections highlight how analyzing cultural works (e.g., literature, film, or cultural presentations) has expanded my understanding of diverse perspectives, strengthened your communication skills, and prepared me for future work in healthcare or other global contexts.

I wrote this paper for my Spanish Contemporary Literature course that I took in Sevilla. The goal of this paper was to analyze the book we were reading called “Nada.” The paper contains an overview of the main principles of the book as well as important context. This analysis improved my comprehension skills within Spanish literature. I was challenged to make connections, draw conclusions, and understand the author’s true meaning of the book in Spanish. As a student hoping to have a career in healthcare, this book allowed me to have an inside glance at the cultural linguistics of Spain, and this will help me have a deeper appreciation and understanding of future patients from other cultures or backgrounds. This artifact shows my improvements in interpretation. With better interpretation skills, I am able to be more thoughtful, kind, and acknowledging in the healthcare field.

This paper was written for my Spanish Civilization and Culture course that I took in Sevilla. The main principle of the paper was to dive into the differences in health between Spain and The United States. I conducted research to identify similarities and differences in statistics and data. I learned about gaps within both healthcare systems as well as information about allocation of resources in the GDP. Having a wider perspective on more than one country's health, health care system, and standard healthcare practices will greatly improve my cultural humility in the healthcare field. My ability to empathize with patients' confusion, questions, and concerns will also be improved. This artifact will continue to show me there is always more to learn and that there will always be more than one way a healthcare system can be run.
